Edmund Bridgerton was the father of the eight Bridgerton siblings.
History[]
When Edmund was a boy, he was visiting a family in the country when he set up a bucket of flour in the gardens. It fell on eight-year-old Violet Ledger, who was furious over the prank.
Nine years later, Edmund met Violet again at a ball. He remembered her, but she didn't remember him until he mentioned the prank he played on her. She was now a young debutante of eligible age. Edmund asked her to dance, and Violet accepted, which led to their marriage six months later. They became parents within the first year of marriage to their firstborn son Anthony. Anthony remembers his father taking him on walks often, and later bringing his younger brother, Benedict, along after he was born.
When Anthony went off to Eton, Edmund personally escorted him there instead of letting a coachman drop him off.
1803[]
By the summer, Edmund and Violet had five more children – Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, and Gregory – and Violet was expecting their eighth child. Edmund would often run around with the younger children at Aubrey Hall, making the maids and footmen distressed over the ruckus they would cause, but Edmund didn't care and let his kids run wild. One day, he was out with Eloise in the gardens when he got stung by a bee. He had an allergic reaction and sadly died at only 38.
Anthony inherited the title of Viscount at the age of only 18. Violet gave birth to a daughter she named Hyacinth after Edmund's favorite flower. His family mourned his loss deeply, and even when all his children reached adulthood, he is still lovingly remembered by them and Violet. His eldest grandson is named after him.
Personality[]
Unlike other husbands and fathers in the ton, Edmund was devoted to his wife, Violet, and his children. His love as a father is highly regarded by all his children, who saw his and Violet's marriage as the ideal love match and Edmund as the loving father to emulate. His death left a huge hole in the family, and a legacy of love that will never be replaced for the Bridgerton siblings.
Relationships[]
Romantic[]
Violet Bridgerton[]
Edmund was devoted to his wife for the 20 years they were married. They shared a true love match that was uncommon in the ton, and Edmund felt his role as husband was more important than his role as viscount. Their eight children and the unique choice to name them alphabetically made them one of the most prolific families in the ton. Together, they devoted themselves to being loving parents to their family. He spent time with his family, playing with his children and teaching them skills instead of leaving them to be raised by maids and footmen and taught by tutors. Edmund and Violet were a couple who preferred spending time with family than socializing in the ton. Edmund's death was heartbreaking for Violet, but she was happy to have experienced true love with Edmund and keeps his memory alive.
Familial[]
Children[]
All of Edmund's children remember him with love and happiness. Anthony remembers Edmund teaching him the necessary skills as he was growing up, as well as Benedict. Colin, Daphne, and Francesca remember the love Edmund and Violet shared. Eloise never recovered from watching Edmund die in front of her. While Gregory and Hyacinth were both too young to remember Edmund, they only remember him with love and respect.
