Eloise Crane (née Bridgerton) is the fifth Bridgerton child.
History[]
Early Life[]
Eloise and her sister, Francesca, are exactly a year apart, and often played together as children. Eloise was with her father, Edmund, when he collapsed and died from an allergic reaction to a bee sting. Eloise was heartbroken, and often stayed close to her mother, Violet.
1813[]
Eloise was with her family when they visited Greenwich with Simon Basset. She later attended the wedding of Simon to her sister, Daphne.
1814[]
Eloise attended a musicale event that Violet had hosted at Bridgerton House. She was introduced to Mary Sheffield and her older daughter, Kate. She told Kate that she wasn't officially out till the following year, but her mother was letting her attend events hosted at the house.
Eloise was at the Bridgerton country party that Violet hosted at Aubrey Hall. She later attended the wedding of Kate to her brother, Anthony. After the marriage, she became friends and spent time with Edwina Sheffield, Kate's younger sister.
After their marriage, Eloise noticed Anthony staying in Bridgerton House, and sent a note to Kate to let her know that he was at their house. When Kate came over, Eloise explained how she found Anthony, and they both joked that Eloise could be a spy with her observational skills.
1815[]
Eloise attended Violet's masquerade ball. She noticed Violet dancing with a man, but Violet refused to tell her anything about him.
1817[]
Eloise greeted her brother, Benedict, when he returned to London and visited Violet's house. He told her about bringing a new lady's maid, Sophie Beckett, to serve in their mother's house. Eloise met Sophie, and liked her immediately. When Eloise's friend, Penelope Featherington, came over for tea and said Sophie looked familiar, Eloise told Sophie that Penelope never forgets a face.
1823[]
When Eloise heard of the passing of Marina Thompson, her distant cousin, she sent a letter of condolence to her Marina's husband Sir Phillip Crane. They soon become pen-pals.
1824[]
After several seasons, Eloise resigned herself to being a spinster, having rejected six proposals, including ones from Lord Wescott, Mr. Wilson and Lord Lacye.
One day, Phillip sent Eloise a letter, asking for her hand in marriage. Surprised, Eloise didn't answer the letter. Soon after, her brother Colin became engaged to Penelope. Eloise was shocked, but happy; she felt lonely due to the fact that she and Penelope planned to grow old as spinsters together. Eloise didn't like the idea of being alone, and decided to meet Sir Phillip to see if they would suit. She used the ball being thrown by Daphne to run away so she could meet Phillip without the judgment of her family. She ran off in the night to Romney Hall, Phillip's home in Gloucestershire. Phillip was shocked to see her, but welcomed her and let her stay.
Eloise found out that Phillip had twins, Amanda and Oliver, who were not happy to see Eloise there. They played several pranks on Eloise, but she played a prank on them, too. When Eloise got seriously hurt by a trip-wire they set, Phillip made Amanda and Oliver apologize, and Eloise told them to spend an afternoon with her, which they agreed to.
After a confrontation about bringing his kids to the lake, Eloise's four brothers discovered that Eloise is unchaperoned with Phillip and demanded that she and Phillip get married immediately to maintain her honor. Eloise agreed, and started to feel a spark with Phillip after they first kissed. They married soon after with both his and her family present.
After their marriage, Eloise realized that Nurse Edwards, Amanda and Oliver's nanny, was mistreating them, and went to tell Phillip about it. However, Phillip told her to handle it and tried to get physically intimate. Eloise pushed him away, and fought with him about their marriage. Phillip, though, argued that their marriage was heaven to him, and left. Upset, Eloise went to visit Benedict and Sophie nearby, and discovered that their eldest son, Charles, was sick. She helped take care of him until Phillip arrived that night, and helped treat Charles.
After they came home, Phillip admitted that he fired Nurse Edwards because Eloise was right, and also revealed how Marina tried to commit suicide, and had been depressed for many years before that. He tells Eloise that he loves her, and Eloise is thrilled, admitting she loves Phillip too. A few days later, Eloise and Phillip go out with Amanda and Oliver on their first family outing, and enjoy time together. That night, Phillip sends Eloise on a scavenger hunt, eventually leading her to her big romantic gesture, saying he loves her; Eloise is thrilled, realizing she finally has a love match, like she always wanted.
Personality[]
Described as tenacious, curious and stubborn.
Relationships[]
Romantic[]
Phillip Crane[]
A while after her distant cousin, Marina Thompson's death, she began writing letters to Marina's widower, Phillip. Thinking the two had a connection, she met him and spent time at his house with him and his children, Oliver and Amanda. She fell in love with all three of them, and the two married a week or two later. She became the twins' mother in every way, and eventually had three more children: Penelope, Georgiana, and Frederick.
Familial[]
Anthony Bridgerton[]
Eloise has a close relationship with her eldest brother. When she was seven, he became more of a father than a brother to her as their father had passed away. He was the first person to give his blessing for Eloise to marry Phillip Crane.
Colin Bridgerton[]
Eloise and Colin have a quarrelsome relationship. Once, when Colin was twelve, he hit Eloise and his father horsewhipped him for it — the only time his father laid a hand on him. When Eloise pestered Colin about why he visited Penelope, Colin was tempted to smack her.[2] Over the years, Colin has tossed Eloise into a lake to teach her how to swim, tied Eloise to a tree so that she did not follow him into a local public inn and considered cutting off three inches of Eloise's hair while she was asleep.[3]
Friendships[]
Penelope Bridgerton[]
Eloise and Penelope have been best friends since they were kids and eventually became sisters-in-law when Penelope married Eloise's older brother, Colin, much to Eloise's surprise. Eloise named her daughter Penelope, after her friend.
