Emma Kenworthy is one of the debutantes in 1815.

History[]

Emma made her debut in the 1815 season. Along with all the other debutantes, she failed to impress the queen, despite Lady Whistledown reporting that she was brimming with confidence and charisma.

At Lady Danbury's Four Seasons Ball, the first ball of the year, Emma ended up in conversation with Eloise Bridgerton, Anne Hartigan, Mary Ann Hallewell, and Cressida Cowper, talking about embroidery. When Emma asked Eloise what her favorite stitch was, Eloise said the switch stitch, which is the one that changes the conversation to something other than embroidery, effectively ending the conversation.[1]

At another ball, Emma and some other ladies approached Colin and Benedict Bridgerton and greeted them.[2]

Emma continued to try to grasp Colin's attention after he helped pull the hot air balloon after it was accidentally released, keeping it from hitting Penelope Featherington, something she declared heroic.[3]

When Lady Whistledown didn't publish on a scheduled day, Emma was disappointed, as she hoped Lady Whistledown would report on her betrothal. The news then came out that Cressida Cowper had claimed credit for the column, causing Emma to declare her a genius. Later, her engagement to Lord Cho was announced by Minister Hughes.[4]

Soon after, two Whistledowns were published on the same day. Emma was among those who read first the one published by Cressida, causing disturbance, and then the second, published by the real Lady Whistledown, which came as a relief.[5]

Emma attended the Dankworth-Finch Ball, where Penelope shocked everyone by revealing that she was Lady Whistledown and also pleaded for their forgiveness, promising to aim her quill more responsibly. Once she was finished, the queen said she appeared humbled, leading the way for the ton to forgive her.[6]
