Lady Berbrooke is Nigel Berbrooke's mother.
History[]
When Nigel became insistent that he was going to marry Daphne, Daphne and her mother invited his mother over for tea. She immediately started talking about how wonderful her son was and how she never had another because she'd already reached perfection. She told Daphne she must work harder to attract Nigel as he had turned down more attractive suitors.
Unbeknownst to Lady Berbrooke, the invitation from Violet was a trap set by her and her servants, to coax scandalous information about Nigel from her maid. They discovered about Nigel's illegitimate son and how he refused to provide for him and his mother, and proceeded to spread the gossip all around town, catching the attention of Lady Whistledown, who published the scandal in her latest sheet. This ruined Nigel's already pitiful reputation amongst the gentlemen of the ton, and he fled London in hiding, abandoning his wedding plans to Daphne and freeing her to marry someone else.
