Lady Whistledown is the pseudonym of Penelope Bridgerton, a popular and admired anonymous writer of a social pamphlet detailing the gossip of "the ton."

History[]

Lady Whistledown was introduced to the ton at the beginning of the 1813 season. Many ladies were intrigued by the gossip columnist, including the Queen herself. She kept the ton up to date on what happened at the balls and events and who was doing well or not. The queen, however, was not a fan, since Lady Whistledown constantly criticized her, like when Queen Charlotte's chosen diamond of the season, Daphne Bridgerton, was failing to attract suitors, putting Her Majesty's judgment into question, or when the writer deliberately omitted any news of the queen's luncheon, stating that there was nothing interesting as of late. It wasn't until after that, that the queen decided to discover who she is. Eloise Bridgerton was also trying to find out who Lady Whistledown was and had ruled out every possible suspect so far.

Personality[]

Spreading the gossip via her newsletter, Lady Whistledown doesn't hold back with her opinions and takes on the ins and outs of the other characters – much to the surprise of the other characters, who equally are kept in the dark about her identity.

Lady Whistledown is the main source for all gossip and her words can influence people's opinions on the current social happenings.

Career[]

Lady Whisteldown hears and spreads all the gossip of the ton through her anonymous newspaper. She is a very popular news source and high people always listen closely to and read religiously.
