Margaret Goring is one of the debutantes Anthony Bridgerton interviewed.

History[]

Debut and Interview with Anthony[]

Margaret was presented to the queen. Later, she performed the harp for Anthony. She told Anthony the harp is a wonderful instrument that teaches one patience, strength and an appreciation for beauty. He asked if she reads and her reaction indicated that she didn't.[1]

Lady Whistledown[]

Margaret read Lady Whistledown while eating ice cream. She appeared shocked and melted ice cream dripped onto her copy of Lady Whistledown.[2]

Ball[]

Margaret was in a romantic relationship with Lord Fife. During a ball, two men gossiped about Lord Fife and Margaret being in a closet for 20 minutes. She was later seen secretly putting tissue inside her bosom while standing next to the lemonade table. Later, when she saw Anthony and Kate dancing, she wondered if that's why Anthony and Edwina's wedding was cancelled.[3]

1815 Season[]

As the 1815 season started, Margaret found Colin Bridgerton, who was recently back from traveling, and asked if he was back for any particular reason or person. He said that if she was asking if he was seeking a wife, he was afraid he'd disappoint her.[4]

Margaret was later at a ball and attempted to gain the interest of Benedict and Colin Bridgerton. When a rumor spread that Colin was helping Penelope find a husband, Margaret and Winifred Barragan wondered what Lady Whistledown would write about it.[5]

When word spread that Cressida Cowper was claiming to be Lady Whistledown, Margaret said it made perfect sense.[6]
