Reynolds is the king's valet.

History[]

King George's Wedding[]

Reynolds came to find King George to inform him that his mother needed to see him at the palace. He believed she found King George a bride.[1]

On the day King George III was meant to marry Charlotte, Brimsley came to Reynolds before the ceremony and told him that he couldn't find the future queen.[2]

After the wedding, King George confided in Reynolds that he struggled with being unable to consummate his marriage. He would have found it easier if his bride were dull and ugly rather than beautiful and brilliant. It made him feel like a troll in comparison, so he decided to leave his wife alone, safe far away from him.[1]

The Queen's Visit[]

When Queen Charlotte decided to come visit her husband at Kew, Reynolds greeted her and directed her to the observatory. Then he invited Brimsley inside under the guise of allowing him to warm up, allowing them to share an intimate moment in Reynolds' quarters. While they were together, the also discussed how to get the king and queen to consummate their marriage, as they were both aware it hadn't yet happened. Despite this, when they were summoned to meet with Princess Augusta, Lord Bute, and Earl Harcourt, they lied and said the marriage had been consummated.

In order to get them to consummate their marriage, Brimsley said the king needed to make some kind of gesture. Reynolds promised to suggest it.[3] Reynolds mentioned this to the king and together, they broke into Monro's lab, stole one of his dogs, and sent it to her.[1]

Conflict arose when Reynolds learned that the queen had had a visitor during what was supposed to be her honeymoon, though Brimsley promised Lady Danbury would be discreet.

While the king and queen consummated their marriage, Brimsley and Reynolds shared their own private moment together.

The next morning, Reynolds was present when King George started struggling. He asked Reynolds to get a doctor and made him promise that Charlotte wouldn't know.[3]

Coronation Day[]

On Coronation Day, Reynolds stood guard while King George was tended to by Dr. Monro. When Brimsley questioned it, Reynolds simply told him he'd seen nothing. Reynolds stood by while the king and queen were coronated. After the ceremony, as soon as they were out of the public eye, the king had Reynolds remove his crown and he and Queen Charlotte went their separate ways.

The coldness between the king and queen continued, but Reynolds had to remind them by clearing his throat that they agreed to attempt to produce an heir on even days. On one such day, they got started in the dining room, forcing Brimsley and Reynolds to clear the room quickly. Once that was done, Reynolds asked if he could go back to Brimsley's chambers to cool off.

One night, the king went outside in the middle of the night nude, calling out to Venus. Reynolds had Brimsley stand guard at the garden door to keep everyone, even servants, away, then tried to cover the king with a coat. This was unsuccessful, but Queen Charlotte stepped in and was able to get him to come back inside.[4] Once the king was inside, Reynolds helped Queen Charlotte clean him up. She then confronted him and Brimsley about what was happening with her husband. This episode pushed King George to resume treatment with Monro, after previously discontinuing it.[1]

The King's Treatment[]

Reynolds listened as the king continued his treatment with Monro, often crying out in pain. Monro heavily controlled the king's movement, even refusing to allow Reynolds to deliver letters to him from Queen Charlotte.

Brimsley tried to get Reynolds to talk to the king and persuade him to return to the queen, but Reynolds said he couldn't do anything about it without telling Brimsley why.

After hearing the king scream, Reynolds forced his way into Monro's room and tried to stop him, but was forced back out.

Finally, when the queen came to find the king, Reynolds was forced to show her to Monro's lab. She quickly put a stop to the torture and ordered Monro out of the palace. Then she had Reynolds get the king a warm bath, food, and clothes.[5]

Birth of the Prince[]

The king and queen spent the following days living happily together at Kew, though Reynolds expressed concern that while the king appeared healthy, he might not stay that way.

This relapse came when the king was expected to appear before parliament. When they arrived, Reynolds was unable to open the carriage as the king was cowered inside, shaking. They returned to Kew and Reynolds reported to Queen Charlotte that King George had never gotten out of his carriage.

Despite this setback, the king and queen hosted a ball to introduce the new prince. At the ball, Reynolds announced the king and queen's arrival, then hid away from the crowd with Brimsley, where they danced and laughed together.[6]

Personality[]

The epitome of a good servant. Reynolds is absolutely loyal to a fault and devoted to King George, assisting him in keeping his illness as a secret from the servants and from the queen herself.
