Siena Rosso is an opera singer who had a clandestine relationship with Anthony Bridgerton.

History[]

Breakup with Anthony[]

Siena had been having an affair with Anthony Bridgerton. She was jealous of his position in society and longed for the status he had. She often became frustrated when Anthony had to leave her to attend to his responsibilities, including attending his sister's societal debut. After his mother confronted him about their relationship, Anthony went to Siena and abruptly ended things between them.[2]

Without Anthony's support, Siena found herself in search of a new gentleman. She came to the club, where she attempted to charm Simon. She was disappointed when her efforts were not fruitful. After her next performance, Anthony was waiting for her. She explained to him that she couldn't listen to his empty promises anymore.[1]

Siena performed at a party Anthony attended, where he was unable to look away from her. Anthony later came to Siena at night and told her that he was preparing to duel. And if he didn't die, he'd have killed Simon and would have to flee, which would mean he was free of the society that kept them apart. They started kissing and spent the night together. In the morning, Anthony left Siena with a kiss to her forehead. Ultimately, he neither killed nor died at the duel.[3]

Siena found a new man and accompanied him to a concert. While they watched the show, Siena looked up and made eye contact with Anthony, who was also watching the show.[4]

Siena went to the fight with a new man, but constantly made eye contact with Anthony until each of them left their seat and met in an aside area, where they had sex. They ended up continuing their affair and Anthony said they could be together for a real, as he was a viscount and his sister a duchess, meaning no one would dare say anything. Siena corrected that no one would say anything to him.

Anthony came to pick Siena up for a ball, but found her with another man. She said she had to look out for her own future as no one else ever would. She told Anthony he needed to let her go.[5]

Personality[]

The beautiful, captivating, and enterprising opera singer who's having a secret affair with a prominent lord. Fun and a bit impetuous, Siena is proud to be independent and not a part of the Ton.

Relationships[]

Romantic[]

Anthony Bridgerton[]

Siena had been secretly seeing Anthony for some time prior to the start of the 1813 social season. Due to the pressures of his title, he was unable to commit to Siena, though he did promise he'd always care for her, which included providing for her housing. However, after his mother confronted him about her, he ended things with Siena abruptly.[6] Despite trying to stay away, they gravitated back to each other briefly and resumed their affair. After his sister became a duchess, Anthony believed that the elevation of her status combined with his own would make it possible for him to marry Siena, but Siena herself knew deep down that she would never truly be accepted into Anthony's world, nor would she fit in there to begin with. Sienna found a new gentlemen to provide for her and told Anthony that she would not and could not change herself to belong in his world, and that it was best they go their separate ways.[7]

Familial[]

Friendships[]

Genevieve Delacroix[]

Both Sienna and Genevieve were, as Genevieve put it, "two girls trying to make it on their own." Genevieve gave Sienna a place to live after Anthony ended the affair and stopped paying for her lifestyle, and did her best to cheer her up over the breakup, telling her she was luckier to not be a debutante and she deserved better.

Professional[]

Career[]

Sienna worked as a opera singer. As most women in her profession, she relied on a wealthy patron to fund her lifestyle and career in exchange for sexual favors. She was involved with Viscount Anthony Bridgerton for a time, but he later broke off their arrangement when he realized that he needed to accept full responsibility as the head of his family, and Siena was left searching for a new patron. She briefly assumed her affair with Anthony, who truly loved her and wished to marry her. He planned to do such after his sister became the Duchess of Hastings, since he believed now his family was influential enough to suppress the scandal of him having an opera singer as his Viscountess. But Siena knew she would not and did not want to fit into high society, breaking things off with Anthony for good and finding a new patron

Notes and Trivia[]

  • Siena is loosely based on Maria Russo in the books. Her part is much smaller- she is mentioned as a previous hook up of Anthony's who he briefly reconnects with and kisses while courting Edwina and falling for Kate. As a wealthy and famous internationally touring performer, she can choose and initiate liaisons with attractive men and leave them as she sees fit. This is a contrast from her character in the show, who is dependent on funding from wealthy gentleman for her opera career and has little other choice than to find a "patron" or john to whom she provides sexual favors. Anthony in the books pointedly only engages in affairs with women who have total free choice in the matter and who come on to him, unlike show Anthony who appears rather unconcerned for the power imbalance in his affairs.
  • She doesn't appear in season two, but her face is seen on a program Anthony has kept and later burns.[8]
