Royal Races[]
At the Royal Races, Dorset approached Lady Danbury and the Sharmas and asked Lady Danbury to make introductions. She did so, but said Edwina had an escort for the day. Dorset said that he was actually more interested in Kate. The two of them started talking and he shared with her that he'd traveled in Bombay before. After they all found their seats for the race, Dorset introduced himself to Anthony, who had come to sit with them.
Later, while they talked, Dorset accidentally revealed to Kate that he knew Anthony, despite previously pretending he didn't. She realized that Anthony had asked Dorset to distract Kate so he could get closer to Edwina.[1]
Another day, Dorset asked to walk with Kate and apologized for lying to her at the races. After walking, the two of them took a boat ride together. She told him about India and how she was counting the days until she would return home. He was surprised that she was not staying in England. He said he'd like to visit her there and she told him she'd be happy to show him around if he did.
Later, Edwina and Dorset both tried to get Kate to agree to stay in England. Anthony then said the knot Dorset had tied to attach the boat wouldn't hold and held out his arm to help Kate out of the boat instead of Dorset. Kate climbed out of the boat, but their prolonged hand contact led to him pulling away suddenly and tripping over Newton, knocking himself and Dorset into the water.[2]
